Encouraging Word

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:36-39

Fence to Bench

Our backyard used to have a fence surrounding it, like this:
Like the action shot of the bird flying? Anyways, we took all of the fence down and were going to get rid of them. That's a lot of wood to waste. So, I thought we could make something out of it. I like the look of distressed, reclaimed wood.

See? Gorgeous. This became a perfect opportunity to get rid of the plastic chairs sitting on our patio  and make new benches! Thankfully my dad knows a thing or two about tools and could help me.
I don't think I can explain how we made them well enough to be recreated by someone else, but here's the finished product!

So much wood combined with liking the bench so much equals 2! And probably 2 more in the making.

Encouraging Word

This is great to keep in mind with any little thing you do. Work above and beyond expected and have the joy of the Lord in mind the entire time.

Encouraging Word

I think this quote speaks for itself.John 3:16: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son...
Listen to this song by David Crowder Band:

What's my outfit Wednesday!

Here's my casual outfit day great for running around town in the heat :)
Tank top from Khol's and denim shorts from Target.

Purse from Coach, bracelet from Target, and the necklace was a piece of jade I made in Guatemala.
I swept my bangs to the side with a side part. It's a great way to keep them out of your face.

Encouraging Word

I love this saying. I can't find who said these wonderful words but they ring true.
Reaching God can be hard according to these standards, but really this is what need to happen in order to have a good relationship with God.
Looking back on mistakes, hardships, trials, it's hard to thank God for those times. We focus on the good memories more than the harsh memories. Stepping back and looking at some of my lower points in life, I can see God does have a reason for each and every thing of the past.
Looking forward and trusting God. Wow, yeah this is hard. The story of the fisherman dropping all their work and leaving their families to follow Jesus comes to mind. I think I would hesitate if Jesus came and asked me to leave everything behind for nothing but following Him. I know I would eventually do this since I love Him more than any thing or person and His Love is enough. Looking at smaller things in the future I find it difficult to make decisions and know if this is really what God wants me to do. I have to trust.
Look around and serve God. I've been doing this a lot this summer in different places. I need to look around my home and see who needs to be served around me. I will be going to volunteer at Trout Lake Camps for the next two weeks and serve kids there. Serving is a necessary aspect but it can be difficult to put others before yourself sometimes.
Look within and find God. Another toughy. Yes, God is always with us. It's our willingness to actually search ourselves for the Truth to have a great relationship with our Father. It takes dedication and an open heart.

Designs I Like

I'm going to start a new series of posts called designs I like. It'll be on places, rooms or any design aspect I like. This one was a few doors and colorful exteriors I took pictures of in Antigua, Guatemala.
Over sized doors, I'd love to have one :)

Love this color!

and the detailed doorknocker!

Imperfections make it perfect.

Only here do these blues look okay next to each other.

Volcanoes in the background of these pretty colors.
Replication and repetition and symmetry

Happy 4th of July! (a little late)

Sorry I don't have a what's my outfit Wednesday this week. But, I do have some fun photos of fireworks! Happy belated 4th of July! I tried to edit these as fast as I could. This was my first time taking firework photos with my new dslr camera. I went between 30" and 1/6" shutter speed or thereabouts.
These I just love the colors even if they're blurry.
This is one of my favorites. I like the pure white fireworks and the way these almost look rectangular.

These were the 30" shutter speed. I like how the sky appears dark blue from the light.
I think the car lights are cooler than the fireworks in this one :)

It's fun moving the camera a little (or a lot) during a longer shutter speed to make squiggly lines.
The 2 diagonal lines almost look like spotlights on the fireworks. The trees add a good perspective too.
And the grand finale!
Hope you had a great holiday with family and friends!
