High Five for Friday

Here are some Instagram pictures from this week!

My kitty Nila hanging out with me :)

The skyline from a window in the Minneapolis Institute of Art.

Sunset picture that turned out sweet because I was on a bus and the water looks like it's foggy.

Fall is here!

Design desires {Staircases}

Staircases

Pretty yellow patterns for a pop of color in your entryway.

For a more muted take on the patterned staircase.

If only this piano staircase would actually play music!

I love these gradiating colors!

I like these wooden and rustic yet modern stairs.

Wednesday Style {senior picture tips}

I realized I never shared my senior pictures I took in Guatemala.
 Find a neutral yet interesting background.
 Don't always look directly at the camera!
Jean jacket and tank from kohls. Necklace, earrings, and skirt from Target.
Peak around a corner. Choose a good venue; I was in old cathedral ruins.
Add easy editing. Here I used picmonkey.com to make the flower totally white (it was slightly brown on the edges before). I also used picasa on other pictures to adjust the lighting and contrast.
Most of my pictures are close ups. I tend to like those better. Here's one that was further away. I played with the doorways and the two repeated behind me.
Take tons of pictures! That's the beauty of digital cameras :)

sisters hair {fancy}

Here's a quick tutorial on how to do a cute fancy do.
I did this on my sister for homecoming.

This is what I started with. Her hair is naturally thicker with slight waves I brushed out.

First inside out french braid starting above the left ear and continuing until you can pull it back into a low ponytail. Leave 1-2 inch sections in front on both sides of the face.

 Second, tease the hair.

 Third, pull the leftover piece from the left all the way to the right and pin.

 Secure with a clear elastic all the hair except the leftover piece from the right. Take the right section of hair (leaving it somewhat loose in the front) and pull underneath the braid. Then wrap it around the elastic and secure.

Curl the ponytail to your desired amount. Hairspray hairspray hairspray and smooth out.

So pretty!

That dress, that hair

Here's what I wore to my last homecoming dance!

Here's my lace dress I DIYed.

My shoes are from Target.
Gold belt also from Target. Earrings from my mom. Bracelet is from Spain.

I also chalked my hair for something different! Here's some tips from The Beauty Department.
This was my hair before I styled it.
And after... I teased my hair and curled the ponytail. Classy enough to go with the dress and fun enough to go with the pink hair :)

Homecoming dress {refashioned}

This little black dress I got at the thrift store for only $7!
This is after I hemmed it about 3 inches so it was just above the knee instead of awkwardly on the knee. I also shortened the halter strap and added a button so it will be easier to put on.
Here's my post about my inspiration to make it even prettier.
I decided to add lace to fill in the neckline.
I got this piece of lace (1/2 yard) for $2.50 at Hancock fabrics.
All I did was pin the piece of lace to the dress while I had it on and then stitched around the neckline. Super simple but changed the whole look of the dress.
Here it is finished!

See what adding a belt, jewelry and fancy shoes does to the dress; Look for the pictures of the dress in an outfit this weekend!

Encouraging Word

Be at peace.

Note from later Monday: This became so true today. I was overwhelmed with the stress of homework, finding parking, and other little things. I remembered this scripture and knew that it would all turn out. It did. God surprised me. My evening freed up and I felt at peace. Amazing how He works!

Wednesday Style

 My bangs were pulled back in an inside out braid.
Necklace from Target.
It was windy; see my model blown hair ;)
Skirt is from Gap outlet.

My jean jacket is from Kohls and my shirt from Charlotte Ruse.

I love this look because it transitions into fall so nicely. I can't wait for the leaves to change colors!

Encouraging Word

Overwhelmed.
Bring me to that comfort only He gives.
Unrest.
My souls uncomfortable.
God's going to do something in my life.
Change.
Molding me into His image.
Challenging me in ways that will stretch my inner being.
Making me think hard and evaluate my life.

Reflect.
