Two Thousand Twelve {recap}

Here's some questions from Covered in Grace to recap the year of 2012. Scroll down for the link up of my favorite posts of each month.

What did you do in 2012 that you’d never done before? Start this blog and I'm glad I did.

Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I don't remember making any resolutions or maybe I just didn't keep them. I always try to grow my relationship with God and I did keep that one :) I'm thinking of making a resolution to do a 365 photo challenge.
Did anyone close to you give birth? No :(
What countries did you visit? Guatemala and Cozumel, Mexico along with a road trip to Montana, USA.
See more sunsets from my travels in this post.

Encouraging Word {Hebrews}

See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. -Hebrews 3:12-14

We share our faith in Christ and should encourage each other daily as this verse tells us. God calls us to help each other during hard times. We can rely on God alone, but it helps to have fellowship with others to make it easier to hear God and be comforted. Sin will deliberately mislead us away from God unless we encourage each other towards God. That is something I look for in relationships.

Interior Designing Ventures {Basement Reno}

This is my first big renovation. I'm designing my family's basement living room. I made a little design board and plan. The only thing we're keeping are 2 couches and the walls.

My dad and I will be taking all of the ugly wood paneling and wallpaper down, replacing the old carpet with hardwood flooring, replacing the windows with a sliding french door, replacing the fireplace, refacing the fireplace with slate and adding new furniture. The only structural thing we'll be doing is closing off an existing door.

P.S. This design plan was done by me using Urban Barn's The Make Room. The color palate in the first picture was found at Design Seeds.

Wednesday Style {Polka Dot Pants for Christmas}

Not sure why I decided to take pictures outside in the 8 degree weather. This was my Christmas day outfit. I'm really excited I found these polka dot pants at American Eagle for $15!

I just tied a necklace around my waist to create a cute belt.

Me, Myself and I

I'm a little late on this months Me, Myself and I post but here it is:
1) What was your favorite gift given to you as a child?
I remember getting a huge barbie dollhouse I was pretty excited about.

2) Christmas is almost here, what is that
one Christmas song you could listen to on repeat?
I LOVE Christmas music, any song (except the strange ones).
My favorite of the moment is "It's Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas":

My favorite artists are Michael Buble, Colbie Calliat, Frank Sinatra, and Blake Shelton.

Hair Tutorial {Tucked low bun}

10 step hair do that looks effortless and fancy. Perfect for the holidays!
Step 1: Start with slightly textured hair, you could curl the ends to start. Gather your hair into low ponytail, secure with an elastic. If you want more volume, tease your hair at the crown of your head before this step.
Step 2: Pull on either side of the hair near the ear to loosen.
Step 3: Split ponytail in half and grab one section.

DIY chain necklace {3 tiered}

Great stocking stuffer! My great-grandma made this stocking for me.
Super simple necklace to make! All you need is some necklace chain, a clasp and a jewelers pliers.
This would be a great last minute Christmas gift.

Wednesday Style {Dressy}

In the past 6 days I've had 6 choir concerts!
So all I've worn the past few days has been concert dress. Black on bottom, solid color on top. Here's one of my concert looks that could also be a great holiday look.

Skirt from Target

Tights from Target. Shoes from Payless.

Here's a tutorial on how to do this hair do.

Encouraging Word {Second Peter}

This verse really rings true after the tragedies of last week. Prayers go to all of the innocent children and their educators.

Eleanor Roosevelt's evening prayer:
Our Father, who has set a restlessness in our hearts and made us all seekers after that which we can never fully find, forbid us to be satisfied with what we make of life. Draw us from base content and set our eyes on far-off goals. Keep us at tasks too hard for us that we may be driven to thee for strength. Deliver us from fretfulness and self-pitying; make us sure of the good we cannot see and of the hidden good in the world. Open our eyes to simple beauty all around us and our hearts to the loveliness men hide from us because we do not try to understand them. Save us from ourselves and show us a vision of world made new.

Encouraging Word {Philippians}

Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. Philippians 2:14-16

Hairstyle {casually elegant half up-do}

This is a 2 minute hairstyle! Super easy, but looks casually elegant :)
You could dress it up by curling the ends of your hair.

So simple!
Step 1: Grab a small section from the part to the ear, pull it across you head, and pin.
Step 2: Grab the same sized section, pull across the head covering the bobby pins.
Step 3: Pin the last section using the hair to cover the bobby pins and hairspray the whole thing.
