A New Do {Shoulder-Length}

I had been growing out my hair for 5 years and it was finally at my goal length. After trying ombre and bangs, I got tired of it pretty quickly and decided to chop off 10 inches! Call me crazy. But no woman is ever content with her hair.
It's also out of practicality since I will be in a hot climate for a year, short hairs just easier to manage.
I am donating my hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. Click here if you want to donate as well.

Here's my before picture.

Yikes! My ends were so bad...

Here are my inspiration pictures:

Can blogger Julia get any cuter?

My sister captured these great pics right after my haircut.
I taught her well ;)

Twae at Chops Hair, Inc. has cut my hair for years. She's awesome.

My advice: if you want to try a new do, do it! Hair grows back and pictures can be deleted ;)

Photo Recap {Prom}

Wow. I just remembered I hadn't posted anything about prom! It was two weeks ago... bad blogger ;)

I mentioned back in February that I was going to make my dress. I made my dress for last year's prom as well. My grandma helped me a ton. We ended up combining one pattern for the bottom and one for the top as well as making up the back as we went. I was able to visit her in Arizona to make the prototype dress. We finished it when she got back to Minnesota.

Isn't it pretty? I pranked my sister by sending her this picture and telling her my dress was finished. She responded "Is that the fabric you're using!?"

This is how it ended up looking! Making the dress was only $50 and I wore heels I already owned. I'd recommend making your prom dress. It's hard work, but so worth it. If you're not wanting to take on that daunting task you could get a dress from the thrift store and refashion it like I did with my homecoming dress.

The back was my favorite :)

My gorgeous friends and I

A favorite part of mine was seeing all the girls dressed up.

My date's in the background and my friend's in front of me
Running off into the sunset.. I mean the snow. Yes, we had a snowy prom, but that didn't crush our spirits. It was a great night :)

time for a close up
My friend did a wonderful job on my hair. I did my make up. My earrings and clip are from Charming Charlie.

P.S. This happens to be my 200th post. I can't believe how much I've written on this blog. It's been a blessing :) Thanks to all the readers!

Wednesday Style {sweatshirt weather}

I may complain about the cold too much, but it's a ridiculous -10 degrees this week. It gives everyone a reason to make a mad dash to their car and stay curled under a blanket all day. This sweatshirt is so cute! It's from Sevenly which is a company that supports a different cause every week.

This sweatshirt from a couple weeks ago says "Hope runs deep" and supports clean water in India. This weeks shirts help stop child abuse. Here's one of the sweatshirts for this week:
from Sevenly
So go buy one! They're so comfy.
(this isn't a sponsored post; just my 100% true opinion of how awesome this company is)

My jeans are from Delias.

Wednesday Style {Orange Sweater}

I love the time of morning right after the sun peaks over the trees (11 am in the winter). The light streams through the windows and the snow sparkles.
My best attempt at capturing the sparkly snow.
The sun can be deceiving though. Its a wonderful 7 degrees outside. I took the pictures in less than 5 minutes (before I froze) so excuse the lack of perfection.
Belt from H&M.

Wednesday Style {Cargo pants}

I don't know if these classify as cargo pants because they are so cute and comfy.
I got the pants from Aerie awhile ago.

My scarf is from Kohl's and my shirt is from Target.

Hair Tutorial {Tucked low bun}

10 step hair do that looks effortless and fancy. Perfect for the holidays!
Step 1: Start with slightly textured hair, you could curl the ends to start. Gather your hair into low ponytail, secure with an elastic. If you want more volume, tease your hair at the crown of your head before this step.
Step 2: Pull on either side of the hair near the ear to loosen.
Step 3: Split ponytail in half and grab one section.

Hairstyle {casually elegant half up-do}

This is a 2 minute hairstyle! Super easy, but looks casually elegant :)
You could dress it up by curling the ends of your hair.

So simple!
Step 1: Grab a small section from the part to the ear, pull it across you head, and pin.
Step 2: Grab the same sized section, pull across the head covering the bobby pins.
Step 3: Pin the last section using the hair to cover the bobby pins and hairspray the whole thing.

Wednesday Style {Red & Rain}

Posing when it was cloudy outside.....

Oh hey sun! The sun broke through the rainy day clouds. I guess thats what happens when I wear my rain boots (from Target). My legwarmers used to be old sweater sleeves :)

hair {ombre}

I decided I wanted to do something different with my hair. Here's my inspiration:

I love these colors but I wanted to keep my roots as my natural hair color. Like this:

Here's how it turned out! I also got more layers in my hair.

I love it!
Here's my hair with soft curls.

sisters hair {fancy}

Here's a quick tutorial on how to do a cute fancy do.
I did this on my sister for homecoming.

This is what I started with. Her hair is naturally thicker with slight waves I brushed out.

First inside out french braid starting above the left ear and continuing until you can pull it back into a low ponytail. Leave 1-2 inch sections in front on both sides of the face.

 Second, tease the hair.

 Third, pull the leftover piece from the left all the way to the right and pin.

 Secure with a clear elastic all the hair except the leftover piece from the right. Take the right section of hair (leaving it somewhat loose in the front) and pull underneath the braid. Then wrap it around the elastic and secure.

Curl the ponytail to your desired amount. Hairspray hairspray hairspray and smooth out.

So pretty!

That dress, that hair

Here's what I wore to my last homecoming dance!

Here's my lace dress I DIYed.

My shoes are from Target.
Gold belt also from Target. Earrings from my mom. Bracelet is from Spain.

I also chalked my hair for something different! Here's some tips from The Beauty Department.
This was my hair before I styled it.
And after... I teased my hair and curled the ponytail. Classy enough to go with the dress and fun enough to go with the pink hair :)
